In this speakers series installment, Michael Forman and Thom Collins will share their experiences as collectors and experts in the world of art. From the best ways to begin in collecting to advice on how to evaluate a potential investment, Michael and Thom will share their knowledge with us.
Michael Forman is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of the financial services firm, FS Investments headquartered in Philadelphia. Michael is also cofounder of Fitler Club with David Gutstadt.
Michael and his wife, Jennifer Rice, collect modern and contemporary art with a focus on diverse and female artists. Works from the Forman Family Collection are on display in Fitler Club. Michael is the creator of Fitler Club’s Artists in Residence program. Works from the 20 local artists currently participating in the program are on display in Offsite at Fitler Club.
Forman serves on the board of a number of civic and cultural institutions, including Drexel University, The Franklin Institute, Philadelphia Contemporary and the corporate leadership board of the Barnes Foundation. Forman is the Chair of Philadelphia Contemporary, a contemporary art organization in the process of developing a museum in Philadelphia.
An innovative educator and accomplished art historian, administrator, and author, Mr. Collins, a Philadelphia native, has more than 20 years of experience at some of America’s top arts institutions, including the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM); the Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, New York; the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore; the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati; the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle; and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Collins earned his MA in art history from Northwestern University and his BA with honors in art history and the history of religion from Swarthmore College. He serves on the Board of Trustees at Swarthmore College and is a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors, the Association of Art Museum Curators, and the College Art Association.
